To make a strawberry daiquiri, you will need:

  • 8 strawberries
  • 50ml white rum
  • 25ml lime juice
  • 25ml sugar
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions:

  1. In a shaker, muddle the strawberries, rum, lime juice, and sugar together.
  2. Add the ice to the shaker and shake for a good 10-15 seconds.
  3. Fine Strain and pour into a chilled glass and serve.

Optional: You can garnish the glass with a slice of lime or a fresh strawberry before serving. Enjoy!

Note: You can also create a frozen strawberry daiquiri by using the above ingredients and replacing fresh strawberries with frozen strawberries.
The method is slightly different – by placing all the ingredients into a blender and mixing until smooth.

History of Strawberry Daiquiri

The strawberry daiquiri is a popular cocktail that is believed to have originated in Cuba in the early 20th century. It is made with rum, lime juice, sugar, and strawberries, and is usually served frozen or over ice.

The origins of the daiquiri cocktail are somewhat disputed, but it is generally thought to have been created by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox. According to the story, Cox was working in the town of Daiquiri, Cuba in the late 1800s when he created the cocktail as a way to quench the thirst of his coworkers. The original recipe called for rum, lime juice, and sugar, and it was served over ice.

Over the years, the daiquiri has evolved and many variations have been created, including the strawberry daiquiri. The strawberry daiquiri is made by blending frozen strawberries with rum, lime juice, and sugar, and it is a popular choice at bars and restaurants around the world.

Variations of Strawberry Daiquiri

There are many variations of the strawberry daiquiri that you can try. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Mango Strawberry Daiquiri: Replace some or all of the strawberries with frozen mango to create a tropical twist on the classic recipe.
  2. Raspberry Strawberry Daiquiri: Add a handful of frozen raspberries to the blender for a slightly tart and fruity flavor.
  3. Pineapple Strawberry Daiquiri: Replace some or all of the strawberries with frozen pineapple for a tropical twist on the classic recipe.
  4. Banana Strawberry Daiquiri: Add a frozen banana to the blender to give the daiquiri a creamy texture and a hint of banana flavor.
  5. Frozen Lemonade Strawberry Daiquiri: Replace the lime juice with frozen lemonade concentrate for a sweeter, more refreshing daiquiri.
  6. Coconut Strawberry Daiquiri: Add a splash of coconut rum or a few tablespoons of coconut milk to the blender for a tropical twist on the classic recipe.
  7. Spiked Strawberry Daiquiri: Add a splash of your favorite liqueur, such as Chambord or Cointreau, to give the daiquiri a little extra kick.
  8. Non-Alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri: Omit the rum and add a little extra lime juice and sugar to make a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail.
  9. Strawberry Margarita: Add a splash of Cointreau and a pinch of salt to the blender to turn the daiquiri into a strawberry margarita.
  10. Strawberry Basil Daiquiri: Add a handful of fresh basil leaves to the blender for a refreshing and unusual twist on the classic recipe.

Best Rum for a Strawberry Daiquiri

When it comes to making a strawberry daiquiri, the best rum to use is a light or white rum. Light rums are aged for a shorter period of time and tend to have a more subtle flavor, which allows the flavor of the strawberries to shine through. Dark rums, on the other hand, are aged for longer periods of time and tend to have a stronger, more assertive flavor that can overpower the other ingredients in the cocktail.

Some popular brands of light rum that are well-suited for a strawberry daiquiri include Bacardi, Havana Club, and Mount Gay. These rums are widely available and tend to be fairly affordable, making them a good choice for mixing cocktails at home.

That being said, the best rum for a strawberry daiquiri is ultimately a matter of personal preference. If you prefer a more robust and flavorful rum, you might want to try a golden or amber rum. These rums are typically aged for longer periods of time and have a richer, more complex flavor that can add depth and complexity to the cocktail. Just be aware that using a darker rum may alter the overall flavor and balance of the strawberry daiquiri.
