History:

The Sazerac is a classic cocktail that is native to New Orleans, Louisiana. It is made with rye whiskey, Peychaud’s bitters, sugar, and absinthe. The name “Sazerac” refers to a brand of cognac that was originally used in the drink.

The Sazerac is believed to have been created in the 1850s by Antoine Peychaud, a New Orleans apothecary who owned a pharmacy on Royal Street. Peychaud is credited with inventing Peychaud’s bitters, which are an essential ingredient in the Sazerac.

The Sazerac became a popular cocktail in New Orleans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is now considered a classic cocktail that is enjoyed around the world. It is typically served in a rocks glass and garnished with a lemon peel. The combination of rye whiskey, bitters, and absinthe creates a complex, aromatic drink that is perfect for sipping on a cold winter evening.
